UniK Students under Service Learning Programme participated in the Bulungibwansi at Kabaka’s Lake

The Kabaka lake is the largest Man-made lake in Uganda and its said to be Africa’s excavated lake. During the construction of the lake, 52tribes of Buganda cooperated and agreed to construct the Kabaka lake. During the Ssekabaka Mwanga’s regime between the 1885 and 1888 and this was a sign of respecting the kabaka’s orders.

Kabaka's Lake covers an area of approximately 200 acres (0.8 square kilometers) and has an average depth of 4.5 meters. It is primarily fed by natural springs and rainwater runoff.

over the year due to over population around the city, the lake has been contaminated by plastics, silt and any sorts of garbage and waste from the city area.

The Kingdom of Buganda Bulungibwansi week 2024 included community mobilization to clean and decontaminate the lake showers. UniK Students adhered to the call, an effort for environment conservation, hygiene and well-being of the community.

Kabaka's Lake serves multiple purposes for the local population. It provides a vital water source for irrigation and other daily needs. The lake is a recreational destination, attracting both locals and tourists for activities such as boat rides, picnics, and leisurely walks along the shores.
