The University of Kisubi proudly hosted its Inaugural Professorial Lecture on Wednesday, 7 October 2026, marking a significant milestone in the University’s academic journey and its commitment to advancing scholarship, research, and educational excellence.
The historic lecture was delivered by Br. Prof. Pius Ochwo, the first professor of the University of Kisubi and Professor of Evaluation and Measurement, under the theme “Understanding Examination Scores: The Quadrilemma of the 21st Century.”
In his lecture, Br. Prof. Ochwo examined the complexities surrounding educational assessment in the modern era, challenging the conventional understanding of examination scores as absolute measures of students’ abilities. He highlighted how test results can be influenced by measurement errors, test design, student circumstances, and other contextual factors.
The lecture explored four key challenges facing contemporary assessment systems: reliability and scalability, authentic validity, equity and fairness, and security in the age of Artificial Intelligence (AI). These competing priorities raise important questions about how educational institutions can ensure that examinations are consistent, relevant, fair, and resistant to academic dishonesty.
Br. Prof. Ochwo also proposed forward-looking approaches to improving educational assessment, including the use of learning portfolios, constructive integration of AI into teaching and assessment, and psychometric methods for identifying and reducing bias in examinations.
Beyond celebrating an individual academic achievement, the inaugural lecture reaffirmed the University of Kisubi’s commitment to fostering intellectual inquiry, strengthening research, improving teaching practices, and generating knowledge that contributes to institutional and societal development.
The occasion marks an important step in the University’s growing academic tradition, providing a platform for scholars to share their research, engage the wider community, and inspire new directions in education and scholarship.
The University of Kisubi congratulates Br. Prof. Pius Ochwo on this historic achievement and looks forward to many more milestones in academic excellence, research, and innovation.
