The University of Kisubi (UniK) celebrated its 11th Graduation Ceremony on Friday, 23 October 2026, under the inspiring theme, “Pilgrims of Hope: Sent Forth to Transform the World in Christ,” marking a significant milestone in the lives of its graduates and reaffirming the University’s commitment to academic excellence, Christian values, innovation and service to humanity.

The ceremony brought together university leadership, government representatives, Catholic Church leaders, graduands, parents, guardians, academic staff and other distinguished guests to celebrate the achievements of the graduating class and reflect on the transformative power of education.

Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo, Acting Minister of Education and Sports, was the Chief Guest, while Bishop Lawrence Mukasa of the Catholic Diocese of Kasana-Luweero was the Main Celebrant.

Graduates challenged to transform society

In his address, the Chancellor called upon the graduates to embrace their identity as pilgrims of hope, guided by faith, integrity, professional competence and a commitment to serving others.

Drawing on the University’s founding educational philosophy, he emphasised that education must develop the whole person the mind to think, the heart to love, the spirit to pray and the hands to work.

He reminded the graduates that the University’s responsibility extends beyond awarding academic qualifications to preparing knowledgeable professionals and responsible leaders capable of addressing real-world challenges.

Using the image of a pilgrim carrying a small lamp along a dark path, the Chancellor encouraged the graduands to recognise that transformation begins with small but purposeful actions. They were urged to illuminate the path ahead through their expertise, ethical decisions, faith and service to the people around them.

He further called upon them to uphold the University’s SCRIPT core values: Service, Creativity, Responsibility, Integrity, Professionalism and Teamwork, challenging them to reject corruption, exercise accountability, embrace innovation and demonstrate leadership through service to others.

The Chancellor’s message reaffirmed the University’s commitment to producing graduates whose knowledge and character contribute to meaningful social transformation.

Government calls for practical skills and innovation

Hon. Dr. John Chrysostom Muyingo congratulated the University of Kisubi on its 11th Graduation Ceremony and commended the Brothers of Christian Instruction for their century of educational service in Uganda.

He described the Brothers’ 100-year educational legacy as a significant contribution to the country’s development, recognising their role in nurturing generations of learners and leaders.

The Minister challenged universities to respond to the changing demands of the labour market by strengthening practical training, digital competence, research and innovation. He emphasised that graduates must leave university equipped not only with academic knowledge but also with demonstrable skills applicable to the workplace.

He also highlighted the Government’s commitment to competence-based education and training, calling upon higher education institutions to prepare for its implementation in the 2027/2028 academic year.

The Minister encouraged universities to foster entrepreneurship and equip graduates to create employment through innovation, technology and social enterprise. He further urged institutions to strengthen research partnerships with industry, government agencies and other universities to address national and regional development priorities.

Addressing the growing demand for student accommodation, he called for innovative approaches that combine strategic infrastructure development with digital learning and appropriate distance-learning opportunities while maintaining students’ safety and welfare.

His remarks reinforced the need for higher education institutions to combine academic excellence with practical competence, ethical leadership and responsiveness to national development needs.

A century of educational mission, a future of transformation

The 11th Graduation Ceremony took place during the centenary year of the Brothers of Christian Instruction in Uganda, marking 100 years of educational and missionary service since 1926.

This milestone provided an opportunity to reflect on the University’s heritage and the enduring educational philosophy that places intellectual development, moral formation, spiritual growth and service to humanity at the heart of learning.

As the University continues to strengthen its academic programmes, research capacity and community engagement, it remains committed to preparing graduates who can respond creatively and responsibly to Uganda’s social and economic needs.

The University’s emphasis on practical learning, critical thinking and ethical leadership reflects its conviction that education achieves its fullest purpose when knowledge is translated into action that improves lives.

Sent forth to transform the world in Christ

As the graduands embark on new professional and personal journeys, the University encourages them to remain steadfast in their values, embrace lifelong learning and use their knowledge and skills to serve their workplaces, communities and nation.

The theme, “Pilgrims of Hope: Sent Forth to Transform the World in Christ,” is both a celebration of achievement and a call to responsibility. It reminds every graduate that the true measure of education lies not only in the qualification earned but also in the positive difference made in the lives of others.

The University of Kisubi congratulates the entire 11th graduating class and wishes all graduates success as they begin the next chapter of their journeys.

Congratulations, Class of 2026!
